Our Team

DAVID LIEB // CO-FOUNDER / CEO
Dave conceived of Bump while daydreaming in an accounting class during his first year of b-school at the University of Chicago...and then dropped out to start Bump. Before Bump, Dave developed algorithms at Texas Instruments and worked on computer vision at Stanford. He graduated from Princeton, where he pitched on the baseball team.

ANDY HUIBERS // CO-FOUNDER
Andy wrote the first version of Bump back when he was the best programmer on the team; he now leads the engineering team. Andy's an honest-to-god quantum physicist, with a PhD from Stanford and a Bachelors from Princeton. Before Bump, he founded Reflectivity, a micromirror display startup that was acquired by Texas Instruments in 2006.

JAKE MINTZ // CO-FOUNDER
Jake began his tech career dialing CompuServe long-distance from his home in Anchorage, Alaska. After working as a web developer in high school and graduating from Santa Clara University, Jake moved on to technical sales and marketing at Texas Instruments before dropping out of the University of Chicago's MBA program to co-found Bump. Jake leads the Bump office's surfing and music clubs.

WILL MOSS // SERVER / SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Will works on all things back-end at Bump and deep dives into Android on occasion. He runs Linux on his MBP and claims to like it. Will was a computer graphics researcher at UNC after graduating from Haverford College. He grew up in Boston and worked in NYC, but after an internship at Google, he realized the surfing is better in the Bay Area.

AUSTIN // RECEPTIONIST, HEAD OF SECURITY
Austin's main responsibilities at Bump include greeting visitors and striking (undue) fear into the heart of the OnTrac guy. Austin grew up in North Carolina, where he met his best friend Will. He now resides in San Francisco.

ABBY KIRIGIN // LEAD INTERACTION DESIGNER
Abby leads the design team at Bump and focuses her time on the interaction design of the Bump mobile clients. Abby worked as a freelance designer for several bay area startups prior to Bump, and she also cofounded Tipjoy, a Y Combinator startup for simple & social micropayments. Abby studied philosophy and CS at NYU and has a Masters in HCI from CMU. She lives in San Mateo with her husband and two kids.

JAMIE TURNER // HEAD OF ENGINEERING
Jamie is responsible for most of the Bump back-end communication system, which is built using his open source evented I/O framework Diesel. Before Bump, Jamie led the server and systems team at YouGov, a leading market research company. He studied Computer Science and English at UCLA, and when he's not chasing his two kids around, he plays guitar and drums in Bay Area cover bands.

SAHIL DESAI // IOS DEVELOPER
Sahil is the biggest Apple fanboy in the office, and he's proud of it. After graduating from Purdue, Sahil immediately began developing for Mac and iOS, working on apps like Domai.nr, Yahoo! Search, and Square. He grew up in Botswana, loves golf, and uses 'u' in words where he shouldn't.

SADIE BASCOM // BUMP EVANGELIST
Sadie makes sure that everything in the world of Bump is good, from talking to users to getting the word out about Bump's newest features. Sadie joins us from the wild world of the NYC advertising industry, where she worked after graduating from Fordham. Sadie is a proud member of the Bump surfing team.

SETH RAPHAEL // IOS DEVELOPER
Seth is an iPhone Magician. No, really, he's a magician. Seth has a Bachelors in Magic and Technology and a Masters in Wonder from MIT's Media Lab. Seth is responsible for the magic that makes Bump work, on the client-side and probably other places we are not aware. Be careful what you think about around Seth, because he'll read your mind.

INDY KHARE // ANDROID / IOS DEVELOPER
Indy specializes in client-side mobile development, both on Android and iOS. Before joining Bump, Indy founded a mobile startup that created some of the most popular early iPhone apps. Indy did his Masters at Stanford focusing on HCI and design after graduating from UCSD. To clear his mind, Indy spends his weekends hiking and trying out delicious new restaurants.

TOM GREANY // HEAD OF API / IOS DEVELOPER
Tom works on both the iOS client as well as the back-end infrastructure that makes Bump the most extensible messaging platform around. Tom studied Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, where he developed a passion for mobile software, wireless devices, and startups. After completing the Bump internship program with flying colors, he hasn't looked back.

KEVIN GABAYAN // DATA SCIENTIST
Kevin is the Bump data guru. While studying for a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford, Kevin worked at Google and NASA doing computer vision and machine learning research. He finds patterns and anomalies in Bump usage data, along with many other special investigations. Kevin enjoys playing the sax in local jazz and blues jam sessions.

LINDSEY SUNDEN // USER EXPERIENCE LEAD
Lindsey makes sure we build products people love. Her background ranges from hard core engineering (laser TVs) to user-centered product design (interactive whiteboards). Lindsey learned about engineering at GeorgiaTech, and about design thinking at Stanford. She lives in San Francisco and likes to ride bikes.

MICHELLE WU // HIRING
Michelle helps build our amazing team. Michelle worked in Venture Capital at DCM before getting her MBA from Stanford, but don't worry, she's got an Electrical Engineering degree from Princeton, so she's legit. Michelle has a passion for gourmet food, but she despises all condiments.

SHONA DUTTA // LEAD VISUAL DESIGNER
Shona owns every pixel in Bump. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, Shona ran her own graphic design consultancy and worked for cool startups like Evernote and Meebo before we wooed her to join Bump. Shona has an infatuation with very nice writing utensils.

BERNARDO NÚÑEZ // PRODUCT DESIGNER
Bernardo designs, prototypes, and user-tests new products at Bump. Before joining Bump, he designed and launched interactive whiteboard products at Luidia. Bernardo has a bachelors degree in Industrial Design from UNAM University in Mexico City, and he lives in San Francisco.

CHRIS PERRY // PRODUCT MANAGER / ANALYTICS LEAD
Chris is in charge of understanding the data on what users want and making sure it gets delivered. Before Bump, Chris spent several years with YouGov in various analytics and product roles. Chris has a Bachelor's degree from BYU, where he studied Statistics and Economics, and a Masters from Stanford in Management Science and Engineering. He speaks Spanish, plays guitar, and praises R with an Argentine accent.

CHRISTIAN WYGLENDOWSKI // SERVER / SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Christian is one of the best Python programmers you can find. Despite how happy he looks, bugs make him very angry. He often writes unit tests just to watch them fail. Before Bump, he spent several years with YouGov, building out their online survey system and data analysis tools. Christian graduated from Malone College and lives with his family in Ohio.

NATALIE HARGROVE // OFFICE ADMIN
Natalie joins Bump after working at both a hardware startup (Reflectivity) and a software startup (School Loop). It's only fitting that she's now helping the Bump team build products that make your phone useful in the physical world.

JASON TING // IOS / WEB DEVELOPER
Jason is a generalist that loves building interactive experiences for web and mobile. Before Bump, Jason worked in the iAd group at Apple creating some of the most engaging mobile web apps ever built. Jason graduated from UCSD.

MARK SMITH // OPERATIONS LEAD
Mark is responsible for keeping all of the Bump systems running smoothly and scaling to accomodate our rapid growth. Mark has worked at several web companies that have experienced high growth and massive scale, such as Google, Mozilla, and StumbleUpon. Mark lives with his family 2.5 miles from Bump HQ and bikes to work.

SAM JUDD // ANDROID DEVELOPER
Sam helps make the Android client more awesome. Sam is a recent graduate of Middlebury College, where instead of learning foreign languages, he learned programming languages. If you had to be stuck in an emergency with someone from Bump, you would want it to be Sam - he previously worked on an ambulance for the Brandon, VT rescue squad.

RICHARD CHEN // PRODUCT / GROWTH
Richard's mission is to get you and all of your friends to use Bump and Flock more often. Prior to joining the Bump team, Richard held various marketing and product roles as an early employee at Airbnb and LinkedIn. He has degrees in CS and Economics from Northwestern University. Richard is an avid traveler who enjoys biking and motorsports.

ERIN DAHLGREN // SERVER / SYSTEMS ENGINEER

She loves applying type theory to create flexible and robust systems that solve difficult problems like those Bump encounters while building our social products at scale.

SPIKE SPRAGUE // IOS DEVELOPER
Spike wrangles iOS code into submission. Since graduating from CalPoly Pomona, Spike has written video games for almost every major gaming platform, most recently working on the iOS client at GameFly. Spike balances out of the box thinking with well organized code. Outside of the office, you'll find Spike playing his ukelele or passing the quaffle as a Chaser for Ravenclaw.

EMIL ARFVIDSSON // MACHINE LEARNING SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Emil applies machine learning (ML) techniques to the Bump matching and prediction systems. Basically, he uses signals and math to know what you are about to do before you do. Emil began at Bump as an intern; before that he interned at Udacity and started his own app development company. He's Swedish, and his name sounds like "ML" when Americans say it; that's neat.

MYOUNG KANG // CONTROLLER
Myoung counts our beans, making sure our money is safe, our paychecks keep flowing, and our health is insured. She also makes sure nothing too crazy happens in the office. Myoung has been Controlling valley startups for 15 years and attempting to control her three kids at the same time.
